"Enjoy an afternoon or evening to celebrate the best of the Caribbean.
Status Report - 4 PM on Sept. 8th - Hurricane Irma slammed into the British Virgin Islands on Wednesday with widespread devastation in all of the BVI's including Jost Van Dyke. We last heard from Foxy's wife Tessa late Tuesday night as all communications are down. A message was passed on from someone on the island that reported; "Foxy and his family are safe". If you have been following the news about Hurricane Irma and the widespread devastation in the Leeward Islands, all of the airports are closed (except St. Croix) in the Virgin Islands - so Foxy and his family can not get out of the BVI's in time for our shows next week. They have much more urgent challenges on the island, so he will not be able to make it to St. Michaels for the foreseeable future. And now it looks like Hurricane Jose will slam into the BVI's this weekend!
Foxy's assistant Susan is "down island" and waiting to fly into the BVI's and help with emergency relief supplies for Jost Van Dyke. She asked via email that we push foward with our "Caribbean Nights" Shows on Sept. 12 & 13th to raise funds for hurricane relief for the island. She along with all of us involved with "Caribbean Nights" here in St. Michaels recognize the dire situation that Foxy and the other people living on the island face - things most of us take for granted - proper shelter, water safe for drinking, food, dry clothes, a dry place to sleep, etc. The US Coast Guard is reportedly dispatching a vessel from St. Croix with emergency supplies for the BVI's. We ask that you keep Foxy and his family, friends and staff in your prayers as they brace for the onslaught of Hurricane Jose just 3-4 days after Hurricane Irma demolished most of the structures and trees on the island.
Our focus NOW is to raise substantial funds for humanitarian relief for Jost Van Dyke. The established "Jost Van Dyke Preservation Society" founded by Foxy many years ago is an apporved IRS 501 (c) (3) tax exempt foundation and can accept our donations for hurricane relief supplies and assistance. We had planned to provide the funds generaed from ticket sales (less expenses) to this foundation for their original mission of preserving their maritime heritage and to teach the children on the ilsand how to sail. Hurricane Irma has dramatically changed our efforts - Jost Van Dyke now faces a much more immediate and urgent set of challenges due to the devastation from Hurricane Irma (and more damage likely this weekend from Hurricane Jose).
We ask for your support as we stage the four "Caribbean Nights" Shows on Sept. 12 & 13th as planned. We will all miss Foxy - hearing him perform and entertain us with his stories and jokes - but we need to press on and help Foxy and the island recover from the devastation inflicted on his beloved Jost Van Dyke by Hurricanes Irma and Jose. We still have a great show planned for you - a superb Caribbean Calypso band (the sound of Trinidad) and special Caribbean inspired food and drinks - all to remind us of those wonderful nights we experienced in the Caribbean! We expect our donations will make a big difference in the weeks ahead before the BVI Government and others can render assistance and relief supplies. We will be accepting donations for the "JVD Preservation Society" at all four shows, and your generous donations (large and small) will be deeply appreciated.
Sincerely - Terye Knopp and Will Workman, Caribbean Nights Productions
