Hooked: Anybody's Child
By Susan Middaugh
Who are the men and women affected by the substance abuse crisis that has devastated our country? This play offers glimpses: who they are, what attracted them to drugs and alcohol, the impact that their addiction has had on them and their loved ones. You'll hear of their struggles, relapses and efforts to recover, some successfully and others not. The play is based on personal interviews with individuals and in many cases, their parents, from Baltimore city, Elkridge, Catonsville, Ellicott City, Lanham, Silver Spring, Easton, Havre de Grace, Columbia, Parkton, and Halethorpe, but it could take place anywhere in the U.S.
About the Dramatists Guild:
The Dramatists Guild of America is the membership association of playwrights, librettists, composers, and lyricists writing for the stage in the United States. The Guild’s Footlights Program offers member playwrights an opportunity to hear new work-in-progress read before a live audience. These readings offer invaluable feedback to writers, while giving audience members a rare opportunity to provide input into the writer’s creative process—and perhaps be first to hear an original, startling, and inspiring new play. Readings are free and open to the public.
