Welcome to Saturday Morning Tunes, an award-winning, family friendly concert series featuring stars of the children’s music scene, hosted at the WTMD performance studio in Towson!
When we were growing up, kids' music was pretty lame. These days, there's a whole genre of music called "kindie" or "kids rock," and it's full of really great musicians making songs you and your little ones can enjoy together. That's our mission: To present concerts you can enjoy with your kids -- not just for your kids.
The shows are every month on Saturday mornings, broadcast live on the radio with a live studio audience. We've had members of They Might Be Giants, Barry Louis Polisar (who wrote the theme song to "Juno"), Latin Grammy winner 1,2,3, Andres, Baltimore kids rock stars Milkshake and Baby Beats, and more. We put a band together to play all the theme songs from our favorite cartoons, and hosted a super funky "Schoolhouse Rock" tribute.
Doors open at 9 a.m. and the music runs from 9:30 a.m.-11 a.m. Each performance has an opening act as well as a headliner.
We have snacks (organic fig bars and fruit strips) as well as drinks (Horizon milk and Honest juice) which are included in the ticket price for all kids. Race Pace Bicycles also sets up bicycles with training wheels for children to ride around the enclosed plaza outside our studio, and we have coffee and arts and crafts from Garrison Forest School.
The WTMD performance studio is a bright, clean environment with comfy furniture that’s ideal for climbing and sitting. Both our men’s and women’s bathrooms have stainless steel changing tables, and stools for our bathroom sinks.
Also -- kids under 2 are free! However, please reserve a free spot for your kid(s) under 2 so we know how many little ones to expect. And Family Four Packs can be used with any combination of adults and children.
Thank you Baltimore Magazine for naming Saturday Morning Tunes a Best of Baltimore award winner! They wrote, "Kids can rejoice at this awesome new concert series, tailored just for them. Tip back a juice box and get ready to rock out."
Jan. 12 - Sonia De Los Santos
UPDATE: This show is now SOLD OUT but we just added a SECOND SET to our Grateful Dead tribute concert Feb. 2 at the American Visionary Art Museum. Tickets are available here.
We're thrilled to host the award-winning Sonia De Los Santos for a bi-lingual Saturday Morning Tunes at WTMD's performance studio in Towson. Sonia was born and raised in Monterrey, Mexico and in 2007 started touring the world, singing in English and Spanish, playing guitar and jarana and lighting up the stage with Grammy Award winning group Dan Zanes And Friends.
In 2015 she released her first solo family music album titled Mi Viaje: De Nuevo León to the New York Island (Parents' Choice Foundation Gold Award Winner) a collection of songs that reflect her experiences growing up in Mexico, moving to another country, learning about other cultures, and in the process, feeling closer to her own heritage.
Sonia has been hailed by Billboard as “one of the Latin Children’s music artists you should know” and her music has been featured on NBC’s Visiones, Sirius XM’s Kids Place Live and WXPN’s Kids Corner among others. She has been featured in the New York Times and also made numerous appearances as a singer and guitarist on TV shows like ABC’s Good Morning America, CBS’s The Early Show, and Sprout’s The Sunny Side up Show and has performed with her band in renowned venues and festivals such as Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space, The Getty Museum, Austin City Limits, Madison Square Park, Battery Park, Central Park Summer Stage Kids and many more.
Recently, Sonia gave voice to the Spanish version of the acclaimed book/CD Sing To Your Baby (Cántale A Tu Bebé) created by Grammy Award Winners Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer, and is touring with her band across the United States promoting the release her second family music album titled ¡Alegría!.
